The entire ground floor of the $28 million Mountaineer complex has been leased and the first store will open for business in time for the Queenstown Winter Festival.

The Queenstown Times was given an exclusive tour of the new development yesterday by Westwood Group Holdings Ltd.

The main entrance on Rees St will feature an open, 12m-high atrium, with double-glazed doors, curving staircases to the basement and first floor, a large gas-powered fire, vertical wooden fins, a pair of lifts and an opening glass skylight at the top of the four-storey building.

Kathmandu will occupy 194sq m in an L-shaped store on the ground floor, with entrances on Beach and Rees Sts, plus 429sq m in the basement.

California-based brand Quiksilver will take up 164sq m ground floor space and 350sq m basement area. Quiksilver must open on June 26 as it is the official clothing supplier for the Winter Festival.

The remaining ground floor retail spaces will be occupied by Bettys Liquor and Jewellers Bench, the Queenstown family business formerly known as the Opal Centre.

The new Night'n Day store and women's fashion retailer Andrea Moore are also on the ground floor.

The Rees St Delicatessen will open on the first floor, overlooking Shotover and Rees Sts.

"Heaven", a series of open-plan health and beauty outlets on the first floor, is a second opening for Hush Spa. It will offer hair, nail and tanning treatments and a skin bar.

A florist's is under discussion for 120sq m on the first floor.

The second floor will feature office space for Global Publications Ltd and Browns Sothebys Realty, while the third floor will be taken up by Good Group Ltd and St George Trust.

Westwood Group Holdings director Johnny Stevenson said the project's finishing date of June 26 was close, hence the flurry of activity. About 70 workers will be fitting out leased spaces over the next few weeks.
