A 50-year-old Queenstown woman is in Burwood Hospital in Christchurch following a serious mountain bike accident near Arrowtown recently.
St John's Ambulance team manager Alana Reid said the woman had received serious facial and spinal injuries after falling off her mountain bike on the northern end of the Lake Hayes Track, about noon on Friday.
Ms Reid said the woman was transferred to Christchurch but it might be some time before her prognosis was known.
"Even the patient doesn't know the prognosis yet.
"With these types of injuries the body needs to go through the healing process and that will take some time."
