Submissions on an application by Routeburn Guided Walks to increase the number of guided walkers it takes on the Routeburn Track are open to the public.

The Minister of Conservation has given notice of intention to grant the new concession to the company for 20 years, but the company still has to reapply.

The company wants to increase the number of trampers in its groups from 24 per day to 46 on the Routeburn Track and the nearby Greenstone Track.

Department of Conservation Otago general director Richard Clark said Doc had so far not received any submissions against the new lease part way through the submission process.

Submissions opened on March 27 and will close on June 12.

If a hearing is required after the submission process, it was likely to start in the week beginning July 16.
