Queenstown Airport feeder Christchurch Airport and Singapore Airlines agreed last week to add 18 additional flights to Christchurch over the December 2014-February 2015 summer season.
This follows an extra 10 Singapore Airlines flights added to this summer's schedule, all to cater for strong demand for travel to the South Island.
''The new services will add more than 9760 additional seats in the 2014-15 summer and are timed to bring additional guests here for the Cricket World Cup and Chinese New Year celebrations,'' Christchurch Airport chief executive Jim Boult, of Lake Hayes, said.
''Additional air services also create opportunities for South Island business, on the back of the city's rebuild and upcoming new facilities, so this announcement is undoubtedly a win for everyone.''
