Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden and district council chief executive Debra Lawson met John Bitcheno, the new chairman of the Queenstown Citizens Advice Bureau, and familiarised themselves with the valuable community service, last Friday.
Mr Bitcheno took over as chairman in late August when Kathy Buckham stepped down from the role after three years.
The mayor and chief executive talked with seven committee members present and were shown how the bureau makes good use of the rooms the council provides free of charge during the hour-long discussion, Mrs Buckham said yesterday.
"We're here for the landlord and the tenant, the employer and the employee and anyone wanting help with immigration, social welfare, health and budget advice."
A total of 42 volunteers work at the bureau, on the corner of Stanley and Ballarat Sts, which is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
About 5000 inquiries a year are made in person, or via telephone, Mrs Buckham said.
