Man rescued after fall

Police and a search and rescue team rescued an injured man last night after he fell on the Wye Creek Track, in the foothills of the Remarkables, near Queenstown.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said the man, in his 20s, fell between 3m and 9m, near the first waterfall, about 8.30pm.

The man was carried initially on a stretcher, then flown out of the rugged country by helicopter, to nearby State Highway 6, near the Devil's Staircase.

He was then to be transferred by road ambulance for medical treatment inthe Queenstown area.

His injuries were not believed to be life›threatening.
