Remarkables Primary School principal Debbie Dickson and Stewart Construction Ltd foreman Peter Conder, of Alexandra, check on Friday the progress on the new classroom aimed at easing pressure brought on by the school's growing roll.
The classroom filled a void on the first floor and construction, funded by the Ministry of Education, took eight weeks.
The connected extension of the existing Ahuwhenua pod blends in with the award-winning design of the school.
It will be ready for use by up to 30 pupils in years 7 and 8 in the new year after final furnishing and inspection this week.
The new classroom helps boost the official enrolment capacity of the almost four-year-old school to 530 pupils, although there were 524 enrolled as of last week.
The school was originally designed for 460 pupils.
Mrs Dickson said 43 year 8 pupils would soon depart for secondary education, allowing for an anticipated similar number of new pupils to enrol over the next year.
While land existed for another classroom to be built, the advent of Shotover Primary School from early 2015 is expected to alleviate enrolment pressures on all primary schools in the Wakatipu area.
Remarkables Primary was looking forward to working with the Shotover Primary establishment board of trustees, Mrs Dickson said.
