Pure Luxury New Zealand has attracted 45 exhibitors from around the country as Queenstown hosts the annual event for the first time.
Local operators Blanket Bay, Eichardt's Private Hotel, Fiordland Lodge, Matakauri Lodge, Milbrook Resort, Sofitel Hotel and Spa, Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters, Ngai Tahu Tourism (Southern Region), Over The Top - The Helicopter Company, Pure Adventure Queenstown, Totally Tourism, the Spire Hotel and Whare Kea Lodge and Chalet will all be there.
Representatives will network with up to 45 buyers from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, China and Australia, while several exhibitors will broker deals in each of the 14 Commonage Villas.
General manager and Pure Luxury board member Victoria Shaw said the villas on Queenstown Hill were chosen as a good example of luxury accommodation in New Zealand.
Destination Queenstown chief executive David Kennedy said the buyers represented discerning, high-spending visitors to whom cost was not usually an issue.
"Luxury is about being within arm's reach of perfection.
A luxury product or experience will take you to a sensory and emotional plane above our everyday experiences.
"Pure Luxury will increase the profile of Queenstown as a luxury destination with the most influential group of people in the global luxury travel market.
"Queenstown is now recognised as a leading luxury destination internationally and has a wealth of options to offer travellers looking for a quality visitor experience.
"Visitors are drawn to the iconic beauty of the southern lakes region and the unique experiences the region offers."
The event is being hosted by the Tourism Industry Association.
Acting chief executive Oscar Nathan said interest from exhibitors outstripped places available.
"In making the final selection, we wanted to ensure a good regional spread of exhibitors, a broad range of accommodation experiences, a balance between accommodation, activities and transport operators, and, of course, the quality of the visitor experience."
Mr Kennedy said it was hard to estimate how much money Pure Luxury would generate as many buyers were already dealing with Wakatipu basin operators.
"Many luxury experiences are custom-made, so the itineraries could start coming through immediately."
It was impossible to say if the Pure Luxury showcase would mean locals could expect more celebrities in Queenstown because the clientele of the buyers was a closely guarded secret, Mr Kennedy said.
Because Pure Luxury aimed to attract more top-end visitors, "this may well include international celebrities", he said.
