Find out when Remarkable Vets presents their show Olive the Other Reindeer - a Christmas Story, on December 20.
Show organiser Nicky Viggers said the audience could expect a lively outdoor show.
"We have a lot of talented and creative people involved, who have put together a fabulous spectacle of music, colour, costumes, dancing and storytelling," she said.
Ms Viggers, who works as a veterinarian at Remarkable Vets, had the idea of creating a family event as a Christmas project.
Through Queenstown singer Margaret O'Hanlon, she got in touch with another local performer, Charlotte Graf, who had written a stage adaptation of a Christmas story.
Before long, the musical show was taking shape, directed by Ms O'Hanlon and choreographed by Anna Stuart.
The lead roles will be performed by locals Fiona Stevenson, Mike Legge and Charlotte Graf, with narration by Shaun Vining and support from a dance troupe and two choirs, which include a large number of local children.
"We are keeping the show fairly short - about 40 minutes - so we can keep the children's attention.
There will be a lot of humour, action and great music for all ages to enjoy," Ms Graf said.
It is the first time the local vets practice has organised a large show like this, but the community support has been encouraging.
"Even though this is our busiest time of the year at the clinic, every staff member is involved in the organisation of the event.
"Each and every person or company I have contacted has offered their help, expertise and support.
It is a fantastic community we live in, and it has made it a joy to take on this project, even if it turned out to be a bigger task than I had imagined," Ms Viggers said.
Entry is by gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the Queenstown Lakes Family Centre.
The show will be held on a large, sloping grass paddock, which is fully fenced, so small children can run around and play safely.
A petting zoo will also be at hand to attract the interest of little ones.
Visitors are encouraged to bring picnics.
The show will take place on Sunday, December 20 at the grounds behind Remarkable Vets' practice at 1079 Malaghans Rd, near Arrowtown.
In case of rain, the venue will be Arrowtown Primary School hall.
The shows start at 5pm and 7pm, with carols half an hour before each show.
