On-licence application withdrawn

The Mrs Ferg ice cream parlour should open in Queenstown by Christmas, but do not expect a shot of liqueur with your coffee or sundae just yet.

The company behind the new business, which will join popular burger joint Fergburger and bakery Fergbaker in Shotover St, has withdrawn an application for an on-licence.

Fergburger general manager Stephen Bradley said he withdrew the application after realising the process was more involved than expected.

''We were probably just six months ahead of ourselves, to be honest.

''I didn't do enough research before I put it in, so I thought let's just put it on hold and concentrate on the sweets.''

He expected to make another application next year, but in the meantime would focus on opening Mrs Ferg in time for summer, hopefully before Christmas.

Meanwhile, work is expected to begin next month on a project to widen the footpath outside the burger bar and bakery to ease congestion.
