The Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking tenders for its legal representation before the expiration of its existing contract with MacTodd.
Council corporate and regulatory services general manager Roger Taylor said the initial MacTodd contract was for a nine-year period.
"We had gone to the market to seek expressions of interest from law firms in late 2009 [but] we didn't get a response."
Mr Taylor said at that time the council withdrew the tender from the market and sought a 15-month extension with MacTodd.
"We are now back in the market with a revised proposal for legal services."
The term of the appointment would be for three years with the option, at council discretion, to renew the contract for two further terms of three years. The first term would begin from April 1, 2012.
Proposals must be received by the council by 2pm on June 21.
