A body of work inspired by trips to the head of Lake Wakatipu by two Dunedin artists and friends forms the latest exhibition in Toi o Tahuna Fine Art Gallery.

Landscape painters Sam Foley and Greg Lewis will be in the Church Lane gallery for the public launch of their showcase, Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, on Friday, February 25, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

In his artist's statement, Foley said the exhibition was a direct continuation of his Otira series, which he exhibited last year.

The Otira series was created in homage to Dutch-turned-New Zealand artist Petrus van der Velden's A Waterfall in Otira Gorge (1891).

"With this being my third show at Toi o Tahuna Gallery in Queenstown, I have been exploring the region further. It feels like a natural progression on the back of the Otira series."

Gallery manager Andrew Jeffery said the artists would at the launch on Friday to answer questions and say a few words.

Wellington-born Foley contributed 10 pieces, including five large oils on canvas, plus acrylics on paper and smaller research works.

Prices range from $950 to $5500.

It will be the final show by the winner of the 2009 People's Choice Award, part of the Wallace Art Awards, before he moves to Berlin for a six-month residency.

Invercargill-born Lewis, a finalist in the 2000 James Wallace Arts Trust Awards, was a newcomer to the gallery.

The number and type of works he would be contributing was not known yet, although the price range would be similar to Foley's.

The exhibition runs until March 23.
