Queenstown police are warning homeowners to lock up after a person was caught entering a property.
Officers were called to a cabin at Frankton Motor Camp at 11pm on Monday.
Queenstown Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said: ''There's been a little buzz on social media about this being a home invasion. It wasn't that. A male opened an unlocked ranch slider and ran off when seen.''
Snr Sgt Enoka said investigations were continuing with a forensic examination of the scene and an attempt to obtain CCTV footage.
''The key message would be for people to secure their property, and that includes vehicles.''
