The dinner is the third in a series at which well-known names in motorsport and their fans get together to benefit the Warbirds Over Wanaka Community Trust and the Upper Clutha Children's Medical Trust.
Thursday's guest speaker is New Zealand-born Jim Richards (68), who won the Australian Bathurst 1000 race seven times, and still competes in touring car masters events.
Mr Richards hit the headlines in Australia in 1992 after he won a crash-shortened race in his Japanese-made Nissan Skyline GT-R.
As he stepped on to the podium, the crowd booed because they had wanted an Australian car to win.
Mr Richards famously responded: ''I'm just really stunned for words, I can't believe the reception. I thought Australian race fans had a lot more to go than this. This is bloody disgraceful. I'll keep racing but I tell you what, this is going to remain with me for a long time, you're a pack of .....''
The event will be hosted by Sky Sports presenter Stephen McIvor, and also attending will be drag racer Bob Clarkson and motorcycle road racer Aaron Slight.
The 25 ''geezers'' attending have all won a major New Zealand motorsport title, its equivalent or a world title across any discipline, or someone who has made an outstanding contribution to motorsport.
