Providing 14 additional bus shelters on Frankton Rd, at Fernhill and Arrowtown, is seen as a major incentive supporting a shift to the use of bus services, Queenstown Lakes District Council transportation planning manager Denis Mander says.
The district council is consulting over the proposed installation of the additional bus shelters and the formalising of existing bus stops, under the Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2006, Mr Mander said.
"The council recognises that the most economic and effective way to address the issue of transportation, particularly on routes like Frankton Rd, is through the greater use of public transport.
"This is also an opportunity to formalise those stops, both new and existing, which will help with issues like public safety," Mr Mander said.
Immediately affected neighbours had already been consulted over the proposed stops, which were planned to be implemented in the first half of this year.
Mr Mander said the council now wanted to "flag the proposal" to the wider community and receive feedback.
A map depicting the location and possible style of the new shelters can be viewed at the council office on Gorge Rd, Queenstown.
Feedback on the shelters and stops can be emailed to services@qldc.govt or mailed to Bus Shelters, QLDC, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown, 9348, by January 30.
