Holiday football programme to run again

Football-mad youths aged between 7 and 13 will have the opportunity to train with New Zealand All White Andrew Boyens at the Queenstown Events Centre (QEC) in January.

Boyens will be running the holiday football programme with his wife, Claire Boyens, and six other coaches from January 17-19.

Originally from Dunedin, Boyens recently returned from the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa.

During the soccer season, he plays for the New York Red Bulls, a professional soccer team in the United States.

This is the third year Boyens has organised a holiday football programme in the Otago region.

More than 300 children attended last year.

The camp will run from 9am-3pm and is limited to 60 participants.

"This is a great opportunity to get children in the Otago region involved in the game and to enjoy a fun few days outdoors while learning some great skills," Mr Boyens said.

Depending on the weather, the programme will be run inside or outside at the QEC.
