Lakes Leisure and Alpine Health & Fitness are getting behind the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, with three special events this month.

Alpine Health & Fitness manager Richie Heap said the cause was an appropriate one, given some employees and clients had been affected by breast cancer.

"We can see by the support we've got from the community it's a good cause."

The first event, planned for next Tuesday, is a special "Pink Zumba" class at Memorial Hall.

The cost would be $5 per person, with all proceeds being given to the NZBCF.

On October 16, the gym would hold a special RPM class where participants would bid for a bike.

The highest bidders for the 25 bikes would earn a place in the 5pm class.

All 25 participants were guaranteed to take home a prize from a sponsor, including a night's accommodation for two from Sofitel and a pair of pink earrings valued at $1500 from OC Jewellers.

Mr Heap said the following day would complete the Tour de Pink, with a corporate RPM class themed "Sweat for a Cure" at 10am.

Companies could buy a bike for $150 and send a representative along to complete the class.
