The overwhelming response to Lakes Leisure's health and fitness programme for residents needing to lose at least 20kg has led organisers to increase in the number of participants.
Six people have been accepted for the free eight-week programme, which begins this week, with two spaces still available.
However, Lakes Leisure communications and business development manager Rachelle Greene said the need was "clearly so great" the number of "extras" had been increased from two to five, with 22 applications received.
Ten people would now be put through the programme, which aimed to get people moving and paying attention to their nutrition, with a view to them meeting and maintaining their long-term health and fitness goals.
Participants would receive weekly personal training sessions to help them set realistic goals and stay on track during the challenge.
They would also have unlimited access to Lakes Leisure's group fitness classes, gym and pool for three months.
Ms Greene said due to the phenomenal response, Lakes Leisure had decided to offer the programme to those who had applied for a "minimal charge".
"The programme includes personal training to the value of $400 [a discounted cost thanks to the personal trainers] which equates to two $25 sessions per week for eight weeks and is a crucial part of the process.
"Free nutritional support, generously donated by Helen Reid, and a three-month gym membership supplied by Alpine Health & Fitness valued at $349 [are also included]."
Ms Greene said those who applied to be accepted into the programme but were unsuccessful could still participate if they paid for their personal training sessions.
The programme begins with a nutrition seminar on Wednesday night.
