Six Queenstown women graduated as the resort's first breast-feeding peer counsellors at a ceremony at Queenstown Playcentre this week.

Jane Hamilton, Claudine Crabtree, Debbie Townsend, Vicky Pollard, Catkin Bartlett and Krista Baker have been trained to give one-on-one support to breast-feeding mothers.

The women are experienced mothers and will volunteer their time to help and support new mothers to breast-feed successfully.

They are available for one-on-one sessions and will hold an informal fortnightly group at the Queenstown Plunket rooms every first and third Tuesday of the month at 10am.

The women spent six weeks doing the La Leche League breast-feeding peer counsellor programme facilitated by Deli Ives, of Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Charitable Trust.
