An historic Frankton farmhouse was damaged by fire yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the fire at Hansen Rd at 9.47am.

Owner Jackie Gillies said the one-bedroomed cottage was built in 1900 and was part of the old Hansen farmhouse.

It was now used as guest accommodation, she said.

Nobody was in the cottage when the fire started.

Frankton firefighter Andrew Doole said the fire, which was confined to the living room, was "more smouldering embers than flames".

Fire safety officers would be investigating.
