After concerns earlier in the day, when Queenstown airport was closed and it looked like some of the bands might not make it, The Checks, OpShop and Evermore all made it in time for the 7pm show.
There was more than a smattering of parents getting into the groove as The Checks opened the night and got the crowd going, and winding up the mosh-pit at the front of the stage.
A slightly thin crowd filled out during The Checks performance filling up the dance floor area and adding to the mist and spotlight-filled atmosphere.
Following The Checks, OpShop gave a full-on performance followed by the smooth sounds of Evermore.
An alcohol drop at the entry collected just a few stray cans and bottles and those who were old enough and had their ID could get a bar entry arm band for the night.
For those who got the munchies from so much dancing, lamb wraps were available, from lamb spit-roasted on the spot, and there were plenty of cold drinks.
Jeans, jeans and more jeans, preferably black and super slim leg, were the get-up of choice.
The Checks lead singer teamed his with a white shirt and black double-breasted waistcoat.
Later, as the tempo of OpShop and the room warmed up, more and more of those previously hanging out on the benched seating cut loose and made it up on to the dance floor.
The Events Centre proved it was up to the mark of transforming from a sports arena into a music venue and the sound system gave plenty of volume without any problems.
Winter Festival media liaison person Gizelle Regan said the evening went without a hitch and extra buses meant everyone got home without any difficulty, despite the snow outside.
"It was an awesome, awesome night.
Queenstown really got into it and had a great time".
The last night at the Kawarau Falls Pavilion on Saturday, with Kiwi vocal legends Jackie Clarke and Frankie Stevens proved one of the best of the festival, said Winter Festival night operations manager Kate Ward-Smythe.
"Everyone lived the evening and it was my proudest moments of the festival when they received a standing ovation at the end.
"It was a great way to end the last night at the Kawarau Falls Station and the festival."
