Drug accused in Auckland court, another appears today

One of six people arrested during a Queenstown police drug operation in April appeared in the Auckland District Court on Friday for a plea inquiry.

Stephen van Engelen (34) was arrested in Auckland on five charges of supply and administration of the class A drug methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Engelen will appear again on July 10 for a post-committal conference.

He and four others were arrested in the five-month police effort "Operation Moses", during which police seized methamphetamine with an estimated street value of "tens of thousands" of dollars they said was destined for Queenstown streets.

Meanwhile, an alleged accomplice of Engelen's, Queenstown tattooist Richard Allen (31), will appear in the Queenstown District Court today.

Fletcher Butler (34), of Auckland, will appear for a plea inquiry in the Auckland District Court tomorrow.

Butler faces five charges of supply and administration of the class A drugs methamphetamine and amphetamine, one charge of producing and manufacturing them and one charge of conspiring to deal them.
