Motorists who illegally park in Arrowtown's two mobility parks in Buckingham St could receive an infringement fine as a result of CCTV footage.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council's transport manager, Denis Mander, and the Arrowtown Village Association have proposed using the association's CCTV system to catch offenders.
In a report to be discussed at the council's infrastructure services committee meeting tomorrow, Mr Mander said the illegal use of the parks had been a "recurring issue" and the association had support from various disability advocates to use the cameras.
A trial using the cameras was undertaken in June 2012 and also involved shop keepers phoning Lakes Environmental when cars were parked illegally.
Thirty-seven photos were recovered, of which nine revealed enough information to issue an infringement ticket.
If using the cameras was to be ongoing, Lakes Environmental would need to be equipped with a tablet computer to view the photos and members of the public would need to be able to report offenders, the report said.
The report recommends the infrastructure services committee endorse the proposal and fund the tablet computer.
