Opening the remodelled Frankton golf course to the public was like ''sending your baby off to school for the first day'', its builder said.
Geoff Andrew's golf course construction firm TIC Projects Ltd completed the golf course work in time for an open day on Sunday.
''It's been tough going with the rain.
''We seeded in early February and had about 43ml of rain within 10 hours.
''It was touch and go whether we'd be ready for today.''
Dozens of keen golfers and youngsters, attended the Queenstown Golf Club centenary celebrations on Sunday, held at the Frankton course and the club's 18-hole course at Kelvin Heights.
Wakatipu Golf Club, now the Queenstown Golf Club, set up in May 1915 with an 18-hole course near Frankton lakefront.
The present-day Frankton course opened in 1958 and was taken over by the Queenstown-Lakes District Council three years ago.
The improvements included a new 800sq m practice green with a practice bunker, as well as improved irrigation and remodelling of the first and ninth holes.
The centenary celebrations were also held at the Kelvin Heights course, where the team of Michael Weastell, Ian Douglas and Ray Crimp won the 18-hole centenary ambrose competition.
