Concerts to be lower key

Scaled-back approach to the Lake Hawea Hotel's annual summer concert series is being taken by organisers for the New Year.

The hotel will forego its usual big stage concert acts for a more casual atmosphere, publican John Shea says.

Bands Steriogram and Elemeno P will headline back-to-back concerts on the last two nights of 2010, before soul singer Hollie Smith performs on Sunday, January 2.

Tickets will cost $35.

The concerts will be held in the hotel's garden bar and the crowd will be limited to about 1500 people.

"We just wanted to tone things down a bit this year and offer something different," Mr Shea said.

Rising New Zealand band the Earlybirds will front for both Steriogram on December 30, then Lake Hawea summer gig regulars Elemeno P on New Year's Eve.
