Concert traffic woes addressed

Organisers of next year's Gibbston Valley Winery concert have addressed the traffic concerns which held up concert-goers to the Dr Hook and Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert in March.

Transport problems created by 15,000 people getting to and from the State Highway 6 site were a major problem for organisers this year, but they were determined to get things right next time around.

Alpine Entertainment director Amanda Calvert said there was no hiding the fact there was an issue last time and they had worked alongside Gibbston Valley Winery to avoid a repeat this February.

She said the issue would be addressed with a simple parking plan.

"Traffic coming from Queenstown will park on the left-hand side and traffic from Cromwell on the right."

The new layout meant the 1000-strong traffic flow which passed the winery on any given day would not be interrupted.

Ticket sales for the Doobie Brothers and Little River Band concert were selling quickly and "well ahead" of sales at the same time last year.
