The Holy Family Catholic Church in Wanaka was blessed by Bishop Colin Campbell at a special Mass this month to celebrate the opening.
Up to 300 people filled the church, which was designed by Sarah Scott Architects and cost $1.5 million-$2 million to build.
The Most Rev Campbell, giving a homily to the congregation, described the church as a "family home" for the Catholic faith.
