A group of Balclutha water-skiers failed narrowly in their bid to get 10 or more skiers up behind a single boat on Lake Hawea on Wednesday.
Every year for the last two decades, the Craig, Harrold, Sinclair and Roxburgh families, of Balclutha, and their friends have holidayed at Lake Hawea Holiday Park to indulge their passion for water-skiing. Last year, the families managed to get 10 skiers up behind a boat but attempts on Wednesday to go one better were abandoned.
Their best attempt was on Tuesday, when 10 skiers had lines but only nine stayed up long enough for a photo.
Their method has been to tow six from a water start at the beach, then use other boats to bring extra skiers alongside, with each additional skier taking a line passed to them by the skier immediately on the inside. Each attempt took at least two hours to organise.
