Asian tourists centre's focus

Japanese businessman Yoji Kimura has opened a Queenstown information centre as a "one-stop booking service" for independent travellers and families.

Mr Kimura arrived in Queenstown in 1997.

In 2003, he founded tourism company Japan Connect NZ Ltd to promote the resort to the emerging Japanese market.

Located on Shotover St in the centre of town, QBook, short for "Queenstown Booking and Info", will have English and Japanese-speaking staff members.

Mr Kimura said Qbook would have a strong focus on the Japanese and Asian markets and would offer visitors a choice of the 20 "must-do" activities in Queenstown.

Mr Kimura said he conducted regular sales trips to Japan and Auckland and had very close relationships with travel agents in Japan.

"I love Queenstown so much that I'm very passionate about promoting it to Japan and the world, and Qbook is a natural extension of that," he said.
