The Elam School of Fine Arts graduate will present 10 oil-on-linen paintings created in 2013-14. Woodlands is Maughan's fourth solo show at the gallery in Church Lane. Maughan came to the attention of British arts benefactor Charles Saatchi in 1998, who has bought several works.
Maughan was included in the Saatchi Gallery, London exhibitions ''The Neurotic Realism'' in 1998 and ''I'm a Camera'' in 2001.
In 1998, he was offered the opportunity to install a major six-panel work, A Clear Day in the Habitat in Chelsea, London.
The work was bought by Te Papa in 2000.
Senior art consultant Jacinta Byron said Maughan's Woodlands was a ''dynamic exhibition featuring vibrant paintings simply bursting with saturated colour''.
''His beloved rhododendrons are complemented by green lush foliage and brightly coloured petals of various flower species; bright colours jostle and energise through the use of light and shadow.
''Woodlands highlights a sophistication and maturity of style that is testament to the dedication Maughan has shown to his painting practice over time.''
• Karl Maughan previews ''Woodlands'' on April 4 from 5.30pm. The exhibition runs until April 30.
