Three Englishmen facing charges relating to incidents on board TSS Earnslaw earlier this month will make a donation to charity and meet the cost of cleaning up their mess as part of a diversion sentence.

Ewan Scott Hutton (26), kitchen hand; Jack Parker (20), sports coach; and Richard Michael Clark (24), kitchen hand were remanded without plea by Judge Kevin Phillips in the Queenstown District Court yesterday after being arrested following an incident on board the historic steamship on August 12.

All three were charged with being on board Earnslaw without reasonable excuse, Parker was additionally charged with defecating in a public place, namely Earnslaw, and Clark was also charged with urinating in a public place, namely Earnslaw.

In court yesterday, Judge Phillips remanded the men to allow diversion to be investigated.

Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, yesterday afternoon said the men would make a "considerable" donation to charity and pay the cost of cleaning up the mess to Earnslaw owner-operator Real Journeys.
