Queenstown Lakes accommodation providers stepped up to offer 631 places for Christchurch earthquake evacuees to sleep through Project Assist.
Project Assist, co-ordinated by the Queenstown Lakes District Council in conjunction with the Salvation Army, received 37 requests for accommodation from 187 Canterbury families, couples and individuals, from the day after the February 22 disaster to yesterday, council communications officer Jo Blick said.
A total of 391 Canterbury residents accepted the council's invitation to register for a Queenstown or Wanaka roof over their heads through the project, which was continuing, Ms Blick said.
