A giant "self-propelled" mouse wheel is due to be installed next week, after workmen from Oamaru-based high-voltage cable maintenance company Trafo power group have tested it.
Trafo chief executive Rick Jopson, pictured with the wheel, said it took two months to construct the wooden wheel and a 3.8m diameter casing. Mr Jopson admitted that although construction had gone over budget, the company had been happy to cover the extra cost as "our contribution to the community".
"We have all had a go. We had four men on it and it goes really well. The kids are going to love it."
