The decision by Ontrack to reverse an earlier decision and install bells and lights follows renewed representations from the Waikouaiti Coast Community Board.
A traffic survey undertaken earlier this year, after Glasgow St became a "collector" road in the area when the new section of State Highway 1 north of Waikouaiti was opened, had helped change the decision, Dunedin City councillor Andrew Noone said.
Local people had also signed a petition seeking warning devices for Glasgow St.
Cr Noone said the warning bells and lights from the Flag Swamp Rd railway crossing would be moved to Glasgow St.
Flag Swamp Rd had been bisected by the new highway and had no through traffic.
The Waikouaiti Coast Community Board had recently held meetings with Transit regarding the State Highway 1 curve at the Blueskin Store at Waitati, Cr Noone said.
Another meeting was scheduled and public consultation would follow on the proposed realignment of the curve, he said.
