The Waitaki District Council started a series of whistle-stop Community Conversations in aid of its new branding exercise, stopping off in Palmerston on Monday, then Kurow and Duntroon the following night.
The Waitaki Story branding is a significant part of a planned and long-awaited refresh of the district’s township and locality entrance signs.
The new community sessions follow earlier "conversations" on new branding held in October 2023.
Feedback then had helped development of the ‘Waitaki Story,’ Waitaki District Council economic and community development manager Mel Jones said in a statement.
"This month’s series of community conversations will be a chance for locals to preview the new district brand and hear about how it was developed.
"We’re keen for you to share your local stories and your ideas about how to bring the Waitaki Story to life in your town," Ms Jones said.
Feedback from local communities about what their particular locality sign could feature was important.
They would play an important role in replacing "the ageing, but iconic, roadside signage" across the district.
The new Waitaki District brand identity was being funded via a Tourism Waitaki grant, Ms Jones said.
The Hampden, Moeraki, Herbert area had their workshop last night.
Oamaru is being offered a community conversation at the Brydone at 3pm tomorrow .
Omarama and Ohau have an opportunity on Sunday at 11am at the Omarama Community Centre, followed by the Otematata Community Centre at 3pm.
Kakanui will have its chance at the Kakanui Hall on Tuesday November 19 at 6.30pm; Oamaru will have another chance next Wednesday November 20, at the Opera House at 6.30pm.
All are welcome and light refreshments will be provided.
