A music festival will rock Centennial Park, home of North Otago rugby, as part of celebrations for the Rugby World Cup.

Top bands appealing to all tastes have been lined up for "The Bog Rocks Music Fest" on September 30 at Whitestone Contracting Stadium.

Headline acts include The Feelers, The Beat Girls, X Factor, Black Velvet Irish Band and the winner of the Classic Hits Idol competition to be held in July and August.

Organisers say it could be the biggest outdoor concert staged in Oamaru.

The event is being organised partly as entertainment for the golden oldies international rugby tournament at Centennial Park and a community event to celebrate the Rugby World Cup.

Already 800 tickets have been sold to the Golden Oldies festival and its supporters.

Waitaki event development officer Jan Kennedy said the aim was to provide bands that would appeal to a wide range of tastes, from young people to "golden oldies".

It has been sponsored by the Waitaki Golden Oldies Rugby Festival, The Bog Irish Bar and Classic Hits 98.4FM Waitaki.
