Tanker delivered

Waitaki Rural Fire has a new tanker, which has cost the Waitaki District Council about $90,000.

The 10,000-litre second-hand 1997 Mitsubishi Fuso tanker was bought from an Auckland truck sales company, then fitted with extra equipment, including a fire pump, by Ireland Engineering, in Oamaru.

The keys were formally handed over yesterday to Waitaki principal rural fire officer Steve Couper.

Mr Couper drove the tanker from Auckland to Oamaru.

In Oamaru, warning devices, fire service and council radios were installed.

It was repainted in rural fire authority colours of yellow.

The tanker will be based at the rural fire station at Deborah.
