The two were part of a team of volunteers who were putting the packages together this week as part of the Oamaru Combined Churches Food Bank response to the dire social need for food and support currently being felt in the area.
One of the co-ordinators and founding members of the movement, Adrienne Wylie, said for the five years she had been involved in the Christmas parcels she has noticed an increase in demand, but at the same time an increase in generosity from individuals and Oamaru businesses.
She said the response was about stepping in to help people and steps had been taken to keep the response going after she and her partner were no longer able to do so.The parcels would be delivered today.
She said the food package and gift recipients were families nominated by various social agencies which operated in schools.
