The Waitaki Boys' High School Big Choir, conducted by choir master Stephen Hinds, practised yesterday for the concert on Monday night which was supposed to star Dame Malvina Major.

However, due to illness, Dame Malvina is unable to perform at the Oamaru concert and another in Dunedin tomorrow night.

However, she has personally picked New Zealand Aria winner Amelia Berry to replace her.

That did not dampen the enthusiasm of more than 80 Waitaki Boys' pupils who yesterday practised in the auditorium items they will perform on Monday night.

The concert will also feature former Waitaki Boys' pupils Tim Blackler (bass baritone), Gregory Ferguson (piano) and Thomas Scott (cello), along with the school's two choirs.

The two Otago concerts are to raise funds to help young Otago performing artists and had been organised by the Dame Malvina Major Foundation.
