The Cattle Creek School - closed in 2004 because it had no pupils - is being offered for sale by the Ministry of Education.
On 1.16ha of land in the Hakataramea Valley, the property consists of the school house, one large classroom with attached office and facilities, a large hall with kitchen, a covered swimming pool, tennis courts and outbuildings.
It has a rateable value of $265,000.
The sale is being handled by Southern Wide Real Estate and the property is being offered for tender.
Tenders close on June 28 at 4pm.
Agent Emma Pledger said on Monday the property was advertised for the first time on Saturday as a lifestyle oppor- tunity.
It was located about 35km from Kurow, had "endless options" and was set in "a fabulous location".
"Properties of this nature do not come along very often," she said.
The property had been offered to Ngai Tahu, which had declined purchase.
The school managed to survive the restructuring of Waitaki Valley schools in 2003, which led to the formation of the Waitaki Valley School in Kurow in 2004 by combining the Hakataramea, Kurow and Otematata Schools.
Because it was more remote, Cattle Creek School was retained, but in August 2003 its board of trustees was replaced with a commissioner.
By September 2004, it had no pupils and the school closed on October 15.
Then minister of education Trevor Mallard promised the school property would be retained for five years in case it was needed.
