A digger is used to clear vegetation on the south side of one of the twin wooden bridges over the Waitaki River, in preparation for work to start later this week or early next week on the approach from Kurow to a new two-lane bridge.

The area already cleared (left of photo) is for an area for equipment and materials for main contractor McConnell Dowell Constructors and its subcontractors working on the $20 million project.

Initial work will focus on the shorter of the two new two-lane concrete bridges, at the Kurow end, across the Waitaki River on State Highway 82. At left is an impression of the new bridge over the southern stream of the Waitaki River.
