Pair escape as car rolls down bank

Police check a Subaru car which left a bend on Horse Gully Rd, inland from Oamaru, and rolled down a bank yesterday afternoon.

The two occupants, a 20-year-old woman, who was driving, and her 27-year-old passenger, both from Queenstown, were taken to Oamaru Hospital and treated for minor injuries, Constable Mark Haythorne, of Oamaru, said yesterday.

The crash occurred shortly after 2pm when the car failed to take a left-hand bend, travelled across the road and rolled about 40m down the bank.

Two passing motorists reported the accident and the two occupants were out of the car when ambulance, the police and Weston fire brigade arrived.

Const Haythorne said speed and the wet road conditions may have been factors in the crash.
