Last-minute enrolments are being accepted for the Waihemo Community Board by-election which finishes on Friday, September 2.
Two candidates, Waikouaiti farmer Geoffrey Foote and Palmerston businessman Stephen Wesselingh, are contesting the seat left vacant after the resignation of second-term member Diane Curtis.
However, if voters had not enrolled in time to get voting papers in the mail, they could still enrol and cast a special vote, Waitaki registrar of electors, Carol Johnston, said yesterday.
"If you think you're enrolled but haven't received voting papers in the mail, then you need to update your enrolment details and cast a special vote as well," she said.
People who enrol between now and polling day will need to contact the Waitaki electoral officer, Debbi Miall, at the Waitaki District Council to get information on how to apply to cast a special vote.
Local people on the unpublished roll also need to apply to cast a special vote.
