The Zonta Club of Oamaru inducted a new board during its annual changeover dinner at the Brydone Hotel last month.

The new president is Rebecca Korberstein.

Past president Rowena Hutton said the president, secretary, treasurer and the four committee member roles were all usually 12-month appointments, but the committee chairwomen can choose to be part of either service, advocacy, membership or fundraising.

"The annual changeover gives members an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills by learning about a new part of the organisation," Mrs Hutton said.

Joining new president Rebecca Korberstein on the board are secretary Chris Brown and treasurer Andrea Armstrong, together with the new committee chairwomen Sandra Webster, Denise McMillan, Ann Little and Cathy Hurst. All were inducted by the area director Cailleen Trengrove.

During the dinner the past board was thanked for its year of work in helping build a better world for women and girls.

Mrs Hutton said guest speaker Jason Evered, from Stronger Waitaki, rounded out the evening with a heartfelt account of his life from being a policeman in England, to the work he does now.

"Jason has achieved much in continuing the work of leaders before him, in bringing so many crucial people together in the Waitaki region, for the betterment of the community.

"We appreciate Stronger Waitaki’s vision of working together to maximise resources and expertise. It was an opportunity to hear about the many organisations that Jason is involved with," she said.

Mrs Hutton said Zonta’s work of continuing to advocate for equality, education and an end to child marriage and gender-based violence continued to be in good hands with the Zontians in the Oamaru club.
