Milk shaken and stirred in tanker crash

A milk tanker which veered into a ditch reduced State Highway 83 to one lane west of Georgetown for about five hours on Tuesday while milk was removed and the truck, tanker and trailer unit were retrieved.

Sergeant Peter Muldrew said yesterday the tanker and trailer was heading east on SH83 when it left the road near Black Point, west of Georgetown, ending up in the stormwater ditch alongside the highway.

The tanker was full of milk and the trailer partly full.

Very little milk was spilt into the drain and posed no danger to any waterways so was left to drain into the dry soil.

SH83 was reduced to one lane while milk was pumped into another tanker and the truck, which suffered only minor damage, was re-trieved.

The road was reopened by about 2.30pm.
