A man arrested at a Weston property following an hours-long standoff with police on Saturday has been charged in relation to the incident after he appeared in the Timaru District Court on an unrelated charge on Tuesday.
Ricky Millar Rigby (43) was arrested on outstanding warrants at a Percy St address about 10.35pm on Saturday after police established he was at the property.
Armed police, including a dog squad, swarmed on to the property and an armed offenders squad from Dunedin was called in as a precaution.
A section of the usually quiet suburban street was cordoned off between Argyle St and Charles St from about 3pm.
Yesterday, a police spokeswoman confirmed Rigby had been issued a summons to appear on a charge of possession of utensils to smoke methamphetamine.
No other charges have been laid.
The drug-related charge followed his appearance before Judge Joanna Maze at the Timaru District Court on Tuesday, on an unrelated charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an alleged stabbing at a Christchurch address on March 30.
Rigby, who did not apply for bail, was remanded in custody to June 18, when he is expected to appear in Timaru.
His arrest followed a month-long search after police appealed to the public for information about his whereabouts on April 2.
On Monday, Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Oamaru, confirmed a 24-year-old Timaru woman had been charged with obstructing police in relation to the Weston incident and would appear in the Oamaru District Court at a later date.
Three other people were also arrested in Weston and charged with drug-related offences as the incident unfolded, he said.
A 23-year-old Oamaru woman was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of utensils; a 29-year-old Oamaru man was charged with possession of cannabis; and a 26-year-old North Otago man was arrested for possession of cannabis, but later released on a precharge warning.
The two other people will appear in the Oamaru District Court on May 29.
