A 31-year old Auckland man was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital yesterday morning after being kicked in the chest by a horse at Omakau.
St John Central Otago rural support officer Ron Smiles said the man was biking the Otago Central Rail Trail and was to finish the section on horseback.
He was rounding up horses when he was kicked.
Mr Smiles said the man was "quite stable" at the scene but the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter was called to take him to Dunedin, because of possible internal injuries. His injuries are thought to be moderate.
