A grand opening for The Station was held in Oamaru last night.
Over 50 people were invited to a function to celebrate the new Japanese restaurant opening in the old Oamaru railway station.
The North Otago Highland Pipe Band was on hand to welcome people in at the start of the evening.
Those invited were given a chance to socialise and get a taste of what the new restaurant had to offer.
Tina Wang and her husband Jared Yuan bought the building earlier this year.
Since then they have been hard at work renovating for the last two and a-half months to get it ready to open.
It was a long process but Ms Wang was over the moon to finally have it open.
The couple moved south from Christchurch to take over the business.
Mr Yuan was blown away by the beauty of the building, Ms Wang said.
"My husband loved this building because it’s a heritage building. It’s an amazing building. We said it needs to be looked after."
Protecting the building was a big priority for the couple, she said.
"For us, it’s not only a business but a heritage thing."
Mr Yuan is the chef at the new restaurant and has prior experience running his own Japanese restaurant in Christchurch.
The brick wall in the dining area has remained and guests are encouraged to sign their names on a brick when they dine there.
Japanese artwork can also be found throughout the building.
