Getting ready for event

More than 200 members of Rural Women New Zealand are expected in Oamaru in May for the organisation's annual conference, in the Opera House.

National president Margaret Chapman, from Kakahu, near Geraldine, met the Oamaru conference organising committee this week to hear about progress on the May 24-27 event.

The conference programme was being planned by national headquarters, while the Oamaru committee was responsible for the "nuts and bolts", Mrs Chapman said.

This year's theme is "Diversity in Action - Resilient Rural Communities", which will be reflected in the guest speakers and a panel discussion at one of the sessions.

During the conference, which will also include business sessions and the election of a new president, the Enterprise Rural Women awards will be presented.

Last year there were 46 entries, but this year South and North Island awards will be made, with the recipients making a presentation during the conference to select the supreme award winner.

It will be the first Rural Women national conference in Oamaru.
