Wet and Wild is the theme of a special camp being held in Oamaru this week.
Camp Quality, for children with cancer, and their siblings, will be based at St Kevins College with about 22 children attending.
Tom MacDonald, who is regional manager for the South region, was expecting a "fantastic" week.
While the children had been told the theme and that they needed to bring their swimming togs and wet weather gear, the programme of events was being kept secret.
However, Mr MacDonald promised there would be loads of fun.
Each year, week-long residential programmes were held in five locations throughout New Zealand.
Mr MacDonald was southern appointed regional manager several months ago, approached through his involvement with the Waiareka Valley Lions Club.
Most of the camp's organising committee came from the Oamaru and Dunedin areas and Mr MacDonald was keen to hear from anyone from throughout the region who wanted to be involved.
The children, who arrived in Oamaru yesterday and leave on Friday, were matched with a companion, who had received training, and they spent the week with them.
Medical staff were also present.
Mr MacDonald said he was overwhelmed by the support from businesses in North Otago.
